Is there a way to close a thread? I've played the classes because I just got my expansions, and I've found a couple classes I could play for the long haul. I plan on messing around in the PvE to learn the tricks of the trade before I jump into PvP.

Well, in the Random Arenas, I rarely see Paragons. Rits are probably the other class I don't see very often either. But, I do see Rits more often than Paras.

Sounds like you are off to a good start then. Unfortunately the only way a thread gets closed is when a moderator finally decides that the topic isn't note worthy, is redundant, or the discussion has become so horribly derailed from the original topic that they close it....much like the last few posts.....come to think, why hasn't this been closed?

I completly disagree. My first chara in gw was a mesmer. And it forced me to stop and learn and understand the other classes in order to be effective. I learned much more then what I would have playing another profession because in order to make my mes work well I had to learn something about all the other professions.

7. Dervish
8. Paragon
9. Mesmer
10. Ritualist
In PvE dervs outclass warriors, no contest. Necros pretty much outclass everything (sab necros), and monk is moot because you really cant replace a monk. And oh yeah, Rits would also be higher on that list in PvE.

I hope to god I never get you in a pug in this lifetime

To the OP, for general gvg, stick with core classes. However, I suggest finding the class that appeals to you though, and playing through with it.

And I hope to god you start reading the threads before flaming me, please?

This is NOT a list of classes sorted by effectiveness, but by POPULARITY, according to my observations in outposts and overall PUG'ging the last few years.

Warriors are definitely FAR more used than Dervishes. If it was an effectiveness list, how would a Paragon rank 8 when it is pretty much the strongest in high end PvE?

LOL WIN.

But there really is no "dark horse" b/c every class is actually used...just unlock all the useful skills(ie GTFO Mending) and play w/ those

From my own experience it's still all about core classes. Even though I loved to play my ritualist I gave up on him. Why? Because a monk just heals better and an elementalist just deals more damage. Problem is, imho, that the core classes are very good at what they are doing and the new professions bring nothing really new or unique to the game. It seems there's just no need for other professions besides play-for-fun. Now, that I play my monk I am always welcome in PvP and PvE groups. No one questions my viability anymore.

Pah, real men use [skill]Concussion Shot[/skill] : D

Anyway,
The Warrior is, from what I've seen, the most popular class.
